Where to stay

São Lourenço do Barrocal

São Lourenço do Barrocal is a rural retreat sensitive to the vastness of the land where it stands and to the family legacy that lays at its core, with an old ‘monte alentejano’ rejuvenated as a luxury hotel, amidst centuries-old olive trees, holm oaks, and vines, that form the landscape of Monsaraz, Portugal.

Within a 780-hectare estate owned by the same family for 200 years, it has its social and functional heart at an ancient small farming village, the ‘monte’, preserving its simplicity and the daily rhythms that have always marked its existence within a productive agricultural property.

It has 40 accommodation units, two restaurants, a winery, a farm shop, two outdoor pools, two bars, horse stables, an event room, and a spa. The refurbishment of São Lourenço do Barrocal was in charge of Eduardo Souto Moura, who received a Golden Lion for the project at the Venice Biennale.
